I joined Redpath Bruce Property Management Ltd in 2014 and in January 2018 became a Director of PMAS. Six years have now passed in the blink of an eye, and I can honestly say I have never stopped learning.
Every meeting I attend, either as part of the wider Directors’ meetings or at a subgroup meeting, currently the Education and Training committee, brings an opportunity to listen, learn and contribute.
We are all aware that maintaining and managing a consistently high standard of service to meet the varying needs of clients and owners has its ongoing challenges.
In addition to this, current regulation, potential new legislation and economic constraints run parallel with doing the day-to-day job. Having a collaborative approach with forward planning, along with the power of a united factoring network, can only stand the PMAS in a strong position to shape and inform ‘common management’ of the future.
PMAS and its member firms strive to make a significant impact at both Scottish and UK government level to ensure that our voices are heard. We do know what we are talking about.
One of the hot topics of conversation across the industry is the Discussion Paper, circulated by the Scottish Law Commission (SLC), under reference from the Scottish Parliament, for the introduction of owners’ associations and a default management scheme, named the Owners’ Association Scheme, intended to replace the Tenement Management Scheme currently set out in the first schedule to the Tenements (Scotland) Act 2004.
At Redpath Bruce, we believe in the transformative potential of these associations in enhancing the living experience for property owners in shared tenement buildings.
In the heart of our Scottish cities, shared tenement buildings stand as architectural gems, housing diverse communities within their historic walls. However, managing such properties requires more than just routine maintenance; it demands effective coordination, transparent communication, and collective decision-making.
Current members of PMAS and those thinking about joining are all in the same position: we are all part of the factoring community and together we bring a wealth of knowledge, shared experiences and of course, an understanding ear if you need to vent….
The success of the industry is based on its people: all of you out there moving the day forward, people contributing through a wide range of skills, knowledge and behaviours.
The industry needs to continue to build on its strong platform with the right people and right capabilities, sharing experience, transferable skills and most of all energy.
The PMAS annual conference is the best place to start your journey whether you are already a member or not, sign up now to attend.
Sometimes it’s better to experience an event than to read about it after. Time to be part of something bigger.
