The Financial Times Date: 11th October:
‘The Government has proposed giving housebuilders 18 months to start fixing unsafe cladding on flats following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. A new five-point plan requires developers to assess buildings within six months and begin remediation within the following year. The plan aims to address slow progress on fire safety, with potential financial penalties for non-compliance. The initiative is part of efforts to prevent future tragedies and speed up work on thousands of tower blocks with safety issues, while balancing industry concerns over cost and regulatory delays.’
PMAS notes that, in Scotland, consent legislation was put in place by Scottish Government to help speed up the process here. A number of buildings are at tender stage, with at least one developer moving forwards in anticipation of this UK Government initiative.
